“We are witnessing the clear, overt, and exposed expansionist policies of the Zionist entity,” Baqai stated, referring to Israel’s increasing military presence in the region. The Iranian official noted that the Mecca Agreement, a recently forged pact between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, arose from a collective realization among regional nations that their security cannot be guaranteed through US patronage. “Achieving security through the United States is no longer possible,” Baqai emphasized.
In response to concerns about regional security, Baqai reiterated Iran’s position that neighboring states must refrain from using their territories as launchpads for aggression against Iran. This message appears particularly directed at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia, with whom Iran has historically experienced tensions.
Additionally, Baqai expressed Iran’s opposition to selective justice, referencing what it sees as biased and inconsistent approaches to resolving regional conflicts. This stance may be linked to concerns surrounding the treatment of Iranian nationals detained in other countries.
Regarding the Mecca Agreement, Baqai dismissed as baseless suggestions that the pact is targeted at Iran. “There is no justification for viewing the agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan as directed against Iran,” he said, insisting that the accord aims to advance regional stability rather than undermine it.
Baqai also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to participating in international treaties, emphasizing that its participation is rooted in national interests rather than a desire to acquiesce to external pressures. This assertion echoes the Iranian government’s stance on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers that the US unilaterally withdrew from in 2018.
