BEIRUT, Lebanon – In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, Lebanese Army Intelligence has carried out a series of raids in the Sarba–Keserwan area, resulting in the detention of two individuals identified as M.K. and W.Sh. The operation was the culmination of a comprehensive security surveillance operation aimed at disrupting the illicit flow of narcotics into and out of the country.
According to a statement issued by the Lebanese Army, the two suspects were apprehended while attempting to smuggle approximately 1.2 million Captagon pills, a synthetic opioid commonly used in the region. The pills were discovered packed inside a vehicle, which was seized by army officials. The detainees and the contraband were subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
The operation highlights the Lebanese Army’s commitment to maintaining national security and combating the scourge of narcotics trafficking. In recent years, Captagon has emerged as a major concern for the region, with the opioid fueling addiction and contributing to the spread of crime.
“We are taking all necessary measures to disrupt the networks responsible for smuggling narcotics into and out of our country,” said a high-ranking Lebanese Army official, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Our forces will continue to work tirelessly to protect our citizens and maintain the safety and security of Lebanon.”
