SUDANESE ARMY CONTINUES TO HOLD GROUND AGAINST UAE-BACKED RSF OFFENSIVE

Khartoum, Sudan – Reports from the Sudanese-Chad border region indicate that the Sudanese army has successfully repelled an initial counteroffensive launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a UAE-backed paramilitary group. Despite facing fierce resistance, the RSF’s bid to recapture territory has thus far been met with decisive repulsion by Sudanese forces.

According to sources, the RSF’s counteroffensive was launched in an attempt to regain lost ground following a series of Sudanese military victories over the past several weeks. These gains are seen as significant for the Sudanese government, which has faced challenges in asserting its authority since the military takeover in October 2021.

Tensions between Sudan’s military and the RSF have escalated in recent months, with both forces vying for control of key territory along the border with Chad. The RSF’s counteroffensive represents a concerted effort by its leadership to challenge the Sudanese army’s grip on vital regions.

Meanwhile, the RSF has reportedly mobilized troops west of Bara, a town located in the Darfur region, with sources indicating that an offensive to recapture the city may be underway. Sudanese forces, well aware of the threat posed by the RSF’s mobilization, are said to be reinforcing their defensive positions in the area.

The escalating conflict along the Sudan-Chad border highlights the ongoing instability plaguing the region. The RSF’s counteroffensive, and the Sudanese army’s successful repulsion of it, serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance of power in the area.

Analysts have underscored the significant role being played by foreign actors in the conflict, pointing to the involvement of the United Arab Emirates in supporting the RSF. This has sparked concerns about the influence of external forces in Sudan’s internal affairs.

As the situation continues to unfold, the international community remains cautiously monitoring the developments. Diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict have thus far been met with limited success, underscoring the need for a comprehensive and sustained approach to addressing the deep-seated issues driving the instability.
