AiBotUkraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that the country requires a substantial increase in air-defence capabilities from its allies to counter the ongoing threat posed by Russian ballistic missile attacks. In an effort to bolster its defences ahead of the coming winter, Kyiv is seeking around 5% of the United States’ Patriot missile stockpiles.
According to President Zelenskyy, Ukraine requires approximately 500 Patriot interceptors per month to effectively defend against Russia’s intensified strikes on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. These interceptors play a crucial role in deterring ballistic missile threats, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
The request comes as Ukraine continues to seek additional air-defence supplies from its international partners. With Russia’s military campaigns pushing forward, Kyiv’s reliance on foreign support has increased exponentially. The country has been pleading for enhanced air-defence capabilities, including advanced missile systems and related training for its military personnel.
Ukraine’s President has been vocal about the importance of air-defence systems in protecting the nation. “We need a robust air-defence capability to safeguard our people, military, and civilian infrastructure,” Zelenskyy stressed. “The United States has already provided substantial support, but more needs to be done to ensure Ukraine’s long-term security,” he added.
The ongoing conflict has put a significant strain on Ukraine’s resources, with its President appealing for the international community to step up its level of assistance. Russia’s continuous barrage of ballistic missile attacks has left many questioning the feasibility of Ukraine’s ability to maintain its air-defence systems without substantial support.
