A tsunami warning has been issued for several coastal regions in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, after a powerful earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Makassar Strait, approximately 100 kilometers northwest of the city of Makassar.
“We are urging all residents in the affected areas to move to higher ground immediately and stay away from the coast,” said a spokesperson for the Indonesian Meteorological Agency. “We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.”
