The skies over Tel Aviv witnessed a worrying scene on Tuesday evening as a missile believed to be of Iranian origin was spotted in the city’s airspace. Eyewitnesses described the missile as a “ball of fire” hurtling towards the ground, before it exploded, sending debris crashing into the Mediterranean Sea.
Although the Israeli government has yet to confirm the origins of the missile, experts point to the distinctive design and payload characteristics of the Iranian-made Sajjil-2 intermediate-range missile. This development comes as tensions between Israel and Iran continue to escalate, with both nations engaging in a war of words over Iran’s nuclear program.
Tel Aviv Residents Describe Chaotic Scene
Resident Rachel Cohen, who witnessed the missile’s passage over the city, said, “It was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The sky lit up with a bright flash, and then there was a loud explosion. I rushed to the window, and I could see the debris falling from the sky.”
Fellow resident David Levy, who was in the area at the time of the incident, added, “We were all in shock. We didn’t know what was happening, but the sound of the explosion was deafening. It was as if time stood still for a few seconds.”
The Israeli military has reportedly been placed on high alert following the incident, with troops deployed along the country’s borders. A spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that “all necessary measures” had been taken to ensure the security of Israeli citizens.
Meanwhile, the Israeli government is calling for international condemnation of Iran’s alleged actions. Prime Minister Benny Gantz vowed to “take all necessary steps” to protect Israel’s national security, stating that “we will not hesitate to take action against any entity that threatens our existence.”
