Some residents of Lakiya and other nearby towns described chaotic scenes as rockets and mortar shells rained down on the area. “We were all thrown out onto the streets without any instructions, everyone was running frantically trying to get away from the explosions,” said a local resident who preferred to remain anonymous.

Others reported seeing Israeli Air Force fighter jets patrolling the skies above the southern region in a show of force.
