Washington D.C. – Former U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton has spoken out against the manner in which President Donald Trump is handling the ongoing crisis with Iran. In an interview with a prominent news outlet, Bolton expressed concerns over the Trump administration’s decision-making process leading up to the military strikes against Iranian targets.
Bolton, a longtime hawk on Iran, stated that Trump is now in a “panic mode” and should have considered the potential consequences of military action before launching the strikes. The former Adviser emphasized that if Trump had taken the time to thoroughly weigh the concerns of his advisors and considered alternative options, the situation might not be as dire as it is today.
The comments come as tensions between the U.S. and Iran continue to escalate, with both sides trading barbs and accusations. Despite efforts by the U.S. to open the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway through which much of the world’s oil supply passes, Iran has refused to back down.
According to Bolton, if the Trump administration had engaged in more effective decision-making before launching the strikes, it would have been possible to avoid many of the current problems. By not taking the concerns of his advisors seriously, Bolton argued, Trump has put the country in a difficult position.
“I think that’s a mistake, too,” Bolton stated, when asked about Trump’s approach to the crisis. “If there had been an effective decision-making process before the war started and these concerns were raised and they bothered the president, he had the option then not to initiate the attack.”
Bolton also suggested that Trump’s reluctance to acknowledge the complexities of the situation and to admit the potential consequences of his actions is a major problem. “If things are upsetting him that he either didn’t think about or didn’t pay any attention to in the run-up to the war, that’s a problem for him, and therefore it’s a problem for the country,” Bolton stated.
The comments from Bolton add to the growing chorus of criticism directed at Trump’s handling of the crisis. Many have accused the President of acting impulsively and without adequate consideration for the long-term consequences of his actions.
As the situation remains fluid and uncertain, the international community is watching with bated breath to see how the conflict will unfold. With multiple parties involved, including the U.S., Iran, and several other key players, the stakes are high and the potential for escalation is significant.
