IRAQI RESISTANCE FORCES LAUNCH ATTACK ON US BASE IN KURDISTAN REGION

Erbil Governorate, Iraq – In a daring operation, Iraqi resistance forces targeted the US base in Erbil Governorate, located in northern Iraq, in the early hours of yesterday morning. The attack, which occurred at approximately 2 am local time, saw the Iraqi fighters launch a coordinated assault on the base, situated near the Erbil International Airport.

According to eyewitnesses and local security officials, the Iraqi resistance forces, identified as members of an unspecified militia group, used a combination of rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire to breach the base’s defenses. The attackers, numbering several dozen, reportedly managed to infiltrate the base’s perimeter before being met with resistance from US military personnel and Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

“We were awoken by the sound of gunfire and explosions,” said a US military spokesperson, who wished to remain anonymous. “Our personnel responded quickly and effectively to neutralize the threat. The situation is now under control, and the base is secure.”

Multiple sources confirm that while there were no US fatalities, several Iraqi fighters were killed or wounded in the exchange. The exact number of casualties is unclear at this time.

This attack marks the latest in a series of escalating tensions between US forces and Iraqi resistance groups in the region. In recent months, there have been numerous incidents of militia groups targeting US convoys and bases in Iraq, prompting Washington to reevaluate its presence in the country.

The US military has maintained a presence in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, with the primary mission being to support and train Iraqi security forces in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS). While the US has begun to withdraw troops from the region, a significant number of personnel remain, primarily at the Erbil base.

The Erbil base is a critical hub for US military operations in Iraq and the surrounding region, serving as a logistics and operational hub for US airstrikes and counter-ISIS operations. The recent attack will likely raise concerns about the security of the base and the broader US presence in Iraq.

As the situation continues to unfold, US officials are working closely with Kurdish authorities to identify those responsible for the attack and to prevent future incidents. This incident serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges involved in maintaining a long-term military presence in a region beset by sectarian tensions and militia activity.
