SAFETY MEASURES ENFORCED: BAHRAIN SEEKS TO BOOST MARINE SAFETY WITH ADVANCED SIRENS

Manama, Bahrain – The Bahrain Maritime and Inland Water Transport Authority (BMIWTA) has recently announced the introduction of advanced sirens in an effort to enhance marine safety in the Kingdom’s waters.

The initiative aims to reduce the risk of collisions between vessels and the shore or between vessels themselves. Advanced sirens will be installed on the shores of Bahrain to alert mariners of any impending danger. Additionally, all vessels navigating the waters are required to be equipped with a state-of-the-art AIS (Automatic Identification System), a safety feature that allows ships to transmit and receive critical information related to navigation, such as speed, position, and heading.

The Bahrain Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications has been actively engaged in promoting the use of AIS technology. This has been achieved through various awareness programs and partnerships with maritime authorities and local shipping companies. As a result, over 700 vessels have been fitted with AIS systems in the past two years alone.

Maritime experts believe that the introduction of advanced sirens will play a significant role in reducing the risk of accidents involving vessels. Bahrain’s busy maritime route serves as a critical artery not only for regional trade but also for international shipping. However, the increasing commercial activity in the waters has posed concerns about maritime safety.

“We are committed to enhancing the safety standards for shipping and fishing industries, particularly in the busy maritime corridors of Bahrain,” said a spokesperson from the BMIWTA. “Our goal is to ensure that all vessels navigating these waters comply with international maritime regulations and adhere to strict safety protocols.”

Under Bahrain’s marine safety regulations, all vessels operating in its waters must adhere to a set of standards related to communication, navigation, and safety. Non-compliance can result in fines and penalties.

Bahrain’s efforts to boost marine safety have been recognized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which praised the country’s commitment to the implementation of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).

As the shipping industry continues to grow in Bahrain, the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its waters remains paramount. With the introduction of advanced sirens and AIS technology, vessel owners and operators have a greater responsibility to adhere to international safety standards.

The initiative has already gained momentum with local shipping companies beginning to invest in the new safety technology. With the government’s stringent regulations and enforcement measures in place, Bahrain is expected to maintain its position as a leader in regional maritime safety.
