CAIRO, EGYPT: ‘Lebanese Official Reveals Skepticism over Latest Ceasefire Agreement’
A senior Lebanese government official has expressed deep concerns that the current ceasefire agreement with Israeli forces may be a ruse to effectively dismantle Lebanon’s infrastructure and pave the way for a future Israeli invasion. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official stated that the current lull in hostilities may be merely a ploy to wear down the military capabilities and resolve of the Lebanese Armed Forces.
According to the official, Lebanon has long been wary of Israel’s intentions, particularly in recent months as the Israeli government has strengthened ties with neighboring countries, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The official believes that Israel sees the current ceasefire as a strategic opportunity to cripple Lebanon’s ability to withstand a future attack.
“We have reason to believe that this ceasefire is nothing more than a carefully crafted tactic to disarm and demobilize our military,” the official explained. “Once we have been sufficiently weakened, we will be exposed to further aggression, and Israel will no doubt capitalize on this to further their own interests in the region.”
The official’s comments come as the international community continues to push for a lasting resolution to the longstanding conflict between Israel and Lebanon. The current ceasefire, brokered by the United Nations and supported by key regional players, has brought a fragile calm to the region, but many Lebanese remain skeptical about its prospects for long-term sustainability.
“We cannot ignore the historical context and the pattern of Israeli behavior,” the official added. “Time and again, Israel has used a similar strategy to dismantle Palestinian and Syrian infrastructure, only to return and exact a greater toll upon those that resisted. This is no different, and we must be prepared for the worst.”
The official’s warnings have sparked widespread fear and anxiety among the Lebanese population, who are still reeling from the devastating humanitarian impact of the 2006 Israeli-Lebanon conflict. As the region continues to teeter on the brink of further instability, many are left wondering whether the current ceasefire is a genuine attempt at peace or merely a tactical maneuver designed to undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence.
As international observers and regional stakeholders continue to assess the current ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese government remains vigilant, aware that the true test of its resolve and determination will come when, not if, Israel decides to renew hostilities. For now, the people of Lebanon can only wait and watch, bracing themselves for the possibility of a devastating new round of fighting.
