In a statement posted on Truth Social, former US President Donald Trump expressed his admiration and pride in the crew that successfully completed the Artemis II mission. The historic spaceflight, which marked the first crewed mission to the moon since the Apollo era, ended with a perfect capsule recovery.
According to the statement, President Trump acknowledged the remarkable achievement of the Artemis II crew, referring to them as “The Great and Very Talented Crew.” His message, posted on Monday, praised the crew for their exceptional performance throughout the mission.
“Congratulations to the Great and Very Talented Crew of Artemis II. The entire trip was spectacular, the landing was perfect and, as President of the United States, I could not be more proud,” President Trump said.
Additionally, President Trump extended an invitation to the Artemis II crew to visit the White House, expressing his enthusiasm for meeting them in person. “I look forward to seeing you all at the White House soon,” he said.
With the Artemis program aiming to return humans to the lunar surface by 2025, President Trump referenced the program’s ambitious future plans. “We’ll be doing it again and then, next step, Mars!” he exclaimed, outlining the potential for future human exploration in the solar system.
The Artemis II mission, which was launched on November 16, 2022, was a critical test of the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. The mission’s success marked a significant milestone in NASA’s Artemis program, which is working towards establishing a sustainable presence on the lunar surface.
While President Trump’s statement may have caught attention for its tone and content, it has not received official endorsement from NASA or the current administration. Despite this, the comment highlights the excitement and optimism surrounding space exploration initiatives in the US.
As the space industry continues to advance and push the boundaries of human knowledge, the Artemis program remains at the forefront of efforts to explore and understand the solar system.
