Washington D.C. – In a recent exchange on social media, United States President Donald Trump expressed concerns about reports of China supplying shoulder-fired missiles to Iran, a move that could potentially destabilize the region and threaten the national security of the US.
President Trump, known for his unconventional communication style, stated that while he had maintained a close relationship with Chinese leaders, he doubted that they would engage in such actions. However, he emphasized that if the US were to confirm evidence of Chinese missile sales to Iran, Washington would not hesitate to take swift and decisive action.
” I hear news reports about China giving the shoulder missiles,” President Trump said. “I doubt they would do that because I have a relationship and I think they wouldn’t do that, but maybe they did a little bit at the beginning, but I don’t think they would anymore.”
“But if we catch them doing that they get a 50% tariff,” the President warned, signaling his willingness to impose severe economic penalties on China if it were found to be in breach of US trade sanctions.
The US has long been concerned about the potential spread of advanced missile technology to rogue states, including Iran, which has been implicated in several high-profile ballistic missile incidents in the past. The administration’s decision to impose new tariffs on Chinese goods could have significant trade implications for both countries, potentially sparking a major trade war.
President Trump’s warning comes at a sensitive time in US-China relations, with tensions running high over a range of issues including trade, security, and Beijing’s increasing assertiveness in the Asia-Pacific region.
Chinese Foreign Ministry officials have declined to comment on the allegations, while Iranian officials have been less than forthcoming on the issue of missile imports. “We have not received any information about our partners procuring shoulder-fired missiles from China,” a spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The US has a long history of seeking to limit the spread of rocket-based systems to sensitive regions, and has imposed strict controls on the export of these technologies to countries designated as sponsors of terrorism or human rights violators.
In light of President Trump’s comments, US diplomats are set to engage in further discussions with Beijing to clarify the extent of any missile sales to Iran and to emphasize the serious consequences of any such action. The US Department of State has not ruled out the possibility of imposing further sanctions or taking other measures if evidence of Chinese missile sales is confirmed.
