Jerusalem, Israel – The Israeli security cabinet is set to convene on Sunday evening at 19:30 to address pressing security issues, including the ongoing US-Iran nuclear talks, intensifying violence in Lebanon, and escalating tensions in Gaza following Hamas’s refusal to disarm.
According to Ynet, top Israeli officials will receive in-depth security briefings on the situation at all fronts. The briefing is expected to highlight the escalating threats posed by Iran, particularly if the current negotiations with the US collapse. Intelligence sources indicate that Israel is preparing for an immediate resumption of hostilities with Iran, in coordination with the US.
US-Israel Joint Military Planning
Israeli officials have acknowledged that Washington is playing a crucial role in Israel’s preparation for a potential military confrontation with Iran. “We’re working closely with the Americans to strengthen our capabilities and prepare for any eventuality,” a senior Israeli official revealed. The joint military planning, aimed at countering Iran’s growing military capabilities and nuclear ambitions, has been ongoing for months.
Gaza Confrontation Lurks
The refusal of Hamas to disarm has heightened tensions in Gaza, prompting Israel to prepare for a renewed confrontation. With US assistance, Israel has been working to strengthen its defenses along the Gaza perimeter and build additional shelters for civilians. However, officials have also conceded that there are doubts regarding US authorization for a potential military operation against Hamas. A top Israeli official described the situation as “highly uncertain,” indicating that US support is not assured.
Lebanon Ceasefire Falters
On Sunday, Israeli officials were also poised to discuss the security implications of the faltering ceasefire in Lebanon. A senior Israeli military commander described the situation as “highly volatile,” citing concerns over the escalating violence between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon. Despite efforts to reach a lasting ceasefire, attacks continue to occur on both sides of the border.
Israeli officials emphasize that all military operations are subject to coordination with the US, reflecting Israel’s recognition of Washington’s key role in its military planning and strategic decision-making.
