TEHRAN / WASHINGTON – A recent satellite imagery analysis has revealed that over 40 speedboats from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy have been spotted moving in formation near Qeshm Island, a strategic location in the Persian Gulf. The development has sparked concerns among regional experts and Western diplomats about potential military intentions in the region.
According to sources, the satellite imagery was captured earlier today and shows the IRGC speedboats, commonly known as “Swift Speedboats,” grouped in a defensive formation near the Iranian island of Qeshm. Qeshm Island is an important location due to its proximity to international shipping lanes and the island’s strategic military installations.
The IRGC speedboats, typically crewed by five to eight personnel each, were observed moving in a coordinated manner, suggesting a heightened state of alertness and potential preparation for a military operation. The exact purpose of the speedboat formation remains unclear, but regional observers believe it may be a show of force in response to increased naval activities by neighboring countries.
“We are keeping a close eye on the situation, as the deployment of IRGC speedboats near Qeshm Island raises concerns about potential military provocation in the region,” said a Western diplomat on condition of anonymity.
Regional tensions have been escalating in recent months, primarily due to ongoing disputes between Iran and neighboring countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Iran has made several high-profile statements in recent days, warning neighboring countries to respect its territorial waters and airspace.
In a separate development, sources have revealed that the US Navy has been advised to remain vigilant in the region, particularly near the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most critical shipping chokepoint.
“The recent buildup near Qeshm Island serves as a reminder of the complex threat environment in the region,” said Admiral Craig Clapper, a former US Navy chief of operations. “We will continue to monitor the situation closely and remain prepared to respond to any emerging threats.”
The situation at Qeshm Island is being closely watched by regional powers and Western governments, which are keen to avert any potential destabilization of the region.
