Two U.S. Soldiers Missing in Morocco Die in Harrowing Rescue Attempt

Washington, D.C. – In a tragic incident that unfolded in Morocco, two U.S. soldiers lost their lives while attempting to rescue their fellow soldier who had fallen off a cliff while hiking in the North African country.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The three American servicemen had been part of a group on a hiking excursion in the region, where they had been based to participate in joint military training exercises with the Moroccan Armed Forces.

One of the soldiers had slipped and fallen off a cliff while hiking, plunging into a body of water below. In a display of bravery and loyalty, two of his comrades attempted to jump into the water in an effort to rescue their fallen comrade.

Sadly, only one of the three soldiers managed to make it out of the water alive. The two soldiers who had jumped in after their comrade were unable to swim back to shore or be rescued themselves, resulting in what is believed to be two fatalities.

U.S. Africa Command has confirmed the deaths and identified one of the deceased soldiers as Private First Class Jacob E. Moore, 27, of Oklahoma, and Private First Class Michael D. Gable Jr., a native of Michigan, whose age and hometown have not been made public yet.

The command has expressed gratitude to the Moroccan Government for their swift assistance in responding to the incident, adding that an investigation into the tragic event is now underway.

Pentagon officials have extended their deepest condolences to the families of the two deceased soldiers and have pledged to provide them with the necessary support during this difficult time.

This incident marks a tragic reminder of the risks that members of the U.S. military undertake daily, whether on military operations, humanitarian missions, or training exercises in various parts of the world.

U.S. Africa Command is working closely with the Moroccan authorities to ensure a proper investigation into the incident, as well as to support the families of the fallen soldiers.

As the U.S. military continues to operate globally in a diverse array of environments, the sacrifice of these two U.S. soldiers serves as a stark reminder of the risks that our service members face every day in protecting American interests and allies.
