Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate as Iran’s Foreign Ministry has issued a stern rebuke against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over its cooperation with the United States and Israel. The Iranian government specifically cited the UAE’s hosting of military bases and equipment as a clear infringement on its national security.
In a statement released by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Tehran condemned Abu Dhabi for its involvement in what it described as a “regional aggression alliance” with the US and Israel. This partnership, according to the statement, poses a significant threat to Iran’s sovereignty and regional influence.
The MFA further emphasized that Iran’s military actions in the region are strictly aimed at repelling US aggression, and have been undertaken solely in self-defense. This came in response to Abu Dhabi’s claim that Iran was responsible for recent missile and drone strikes on Emirati soil.
“We categorically deny any involvement in the recent attacks on UAE targets,” an Iranian diplomat said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Iran’s military operations are designed to protect its national interests and to counter the growing presence of US and Israeli forces in the region.”
The diplomat emphasized that Tehran viewed the UAE’s claims as “baseless and misleading,” and that continued military and logistical cooperation with the US and Israel would be considered a serious provocation. “We urge Abu Dhabi to reconsider its actions and to refrain from any further involvement in a partnership that threatens regional peace and stability,” the diplomat added.
In a warning addressed to the international community, Tehran stated that it will take necessary measures to protect its national security and sovereignty. This implies that Iran may be willing to increase its military activities in the region, should the UAE and its allies continue to pursue a course of action that puts Iranian interests at risk.
The tensions between Iran and the UAE come as the Biden administration has sought to strengthen its military presence in the region, and as Israel has reportedly been conducting a series of airstrikes against Iranian targets in Syria. The crisis has raised concerns among regional observers about the potential for an all-out conflict between Iran and its adversaries.
