“Iran Vows to Protect Hormuz as US Aims to Ease Pressure”

Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate, with the United States attempting to assert control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz. In an exclusive interview, Press TV’s Maryam Azarchehr shed light on Tehran’s stance, highlighting the strategic significance of the waterway and the Islamic Republic’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, is a vital conduit for global oil supplies. Approximately 20% of the world’s crude oil exports, roughly 25% of the global oil supply, passes through this strategic chokepoint. In recent years, Iran has repeatedly emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and security in the region, warning against foreign intervention.

Azarchehr highlighted that Iran’s stance on the management of the Strait of Hormuz stems from a deep understanding of its historical and geostrategic importance to the country. The US, however, seeks to capitalize on this strategic significance to alleviate pressure it is currently facing, both domestically and internationally, she noted.

“Easing pressure, for the US, means reducing the global economic and financial burden imposed on it by its ongoing military campaigns in the Middle East,” Azarchehr said. “By attempting to take control of the Strait of Hormuz, the US aims to ensure unhindered oil supply and consequently maintain its economic dominance.”

The US has been seeking to reduce its economic reliance on foreign oil, partly in response to the 1973 oil embargo. As such, securing access to the region’s vast oil resources has become a pressing concern. Azarchehr pointed out that this interest is part of a broader strategic push to contain the growing economic influence of other nations in the region.

While emphasizing Iran’s unwavering commitment to its sovereignty, Azarchehr emphasized that the country remains open to diplomatic solutions and cooperation with other regional powers. Tehran has repeatedly expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with the US and other nations, provided that any agreements are based on mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.

Iran’s defense capabilities have been steadily upgraded in view of the growing threat from US military maneuvers in the region. With the US and its regional allies attempting to encroach on its territory, the Islamic Republic remains vigilant and has stated its resolve to protect its national interests at all costs.
