TENSIONS ESCALATE BETWEEN US AND IRAN AS DETAILS OF PROPOSED AGREEMENT EMERGE

A senior Iranian parliament member has questioned the authenticity and realism of a reported US proposal for an agreement with Iran, sparking heightened tensions between the two nations. The comments come as Washington and Tehran continue to engage in a cat-and-mouse game of diplomatic one-upmanship.

According to an article published by Axios, the proposed agreement reportedly contained several key concessions from the US, including the lifting of economic sanctions and a guarantee of Iran’s right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes. However, Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the parliament’s foreign policy and national security committee, dismissed the alleged proposal as little more than a list of “American wishes rather than a reality.”

On the social media platform X, Rezaei wrote: “The Axios text is a list of American wishes rather than a reality. Americans will not achieve in a losing war what they did not achieve in face-to-face negotiations.” His statement underscored the long-standing skepticism in Iran toward US intentions, which many believe are motivated by a desire to strangle the Iranian economy and undermine the authority of the Islamic Republic.

The spat is the latest manifestation of a wider struggle for influence between the two nations. Iran, which has been locked in a standoff with the US over its nuclear program, has become increasingly assertive in recent weeks, with its military launching missile strikes against US-backed groups in Iraq and Syria. In response, Washington has tightened its economic sanctions, citing Iran’s continued support for regional extremist groups.

Rezaei’s comments also hinted at a more aggressive Iranian posture in the event of a US escalation. “Iran has its finger on the trigger and is ready,” he wrote. “If they do not surrender and provide the necessary concessions, or if they or their subservient proxies attempt any mischief, we will deliver a harsh and regrettable response.”

The Axios report has sparked a heated debate about the prospects for a US-Iran agreement, with some analysts suggesting that the proposal represents a genuine attempt by Washington to break the diplomatic deadlock. Others have argued, however, that the leak is little more than a propaganda ploy aimed at bolstering the US domestic narrative.

Regardless of the truth, one thing is clear: the tensions between the US and Iran will not be resolved easily. With both sides locked into a cycle of provocation and counter-provocation, the risk of an unintended conflict grows by the day.
