“UAE Enforces Strict New Laws and Fines on Public Behaviour Amid Rise in Petty Crimes”

Abu Dhabi, 8th May 2026 – In an effort to combat an increasing trend of petty crimes and maintain public order, the UAE Ministry of Interior has launched a nationwide campaign to enforce stricter laws and fines on public behaviour. As part of the “Alerts UAE” initiative, authorities have announced a series of regulations aimed at deterring individuals from engaging in unacceptable behaviour that may compromise public safety and security.

According to officials, the latest figures demonstrate a marked rise in petty crimes such as littering, public drunkenness, and jaywalking, prompting the government to intervene with a comprehensive set of rules. Under the new laws, individuals found guilty of these offences will face substantial fines, ranging from AED 1, 000 to AED 5, 000 (approximately USD 273 to USD 1,363).

A crucial aspect of the campaign is the implementation of a robust public surveillance system, incorporating smart cameras and advanced facial recognition technology to monitor public spaces and identify potential law-breakers. The UAE authorities have stated that these measures will serve as a powerful deterrent, discouraging individuals from engaging in behaviour considered unacceptable by the community.

To further reinforce the initiative, community policing teams will be deployed to conduct regular patrols and awareness drives, educating the public on the implications of non-compliance. Additionally, social media campaigns will be launched to promote a culture of respect for public spaces and the rights of fellow citizens.

Commenting on the initiative, Major General Khalid Al Bu Ainain, Assistant to the Ministry of Interior for Traffic and Public Services, said: “The UAE government values the safety and well-being of its citizens and residents, and we will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to public disorder. Our goal is to maintain a harmonious and secure environment for everyone, where individuals can live and work with pride.”

The UAE’s “Alerts UAE” initiative is set to become a model for other countries facing similar challenges, showcasing the effective application of technology and community engagement in maintaining public order and security. As the nation continues to evolve, the government remains committed to fostering a society that is mindful of its responsibilities towards public spaces and the community as a whole.

Critics of the initiative have expressed concerns regarding the potential infringement of individual freedoms, but proponents argue that the measures are essential to safeguarding the nation’s reputation and creating a safe, harmonious environment for all.
