According to local residents, the main and largest part of the neighborhood has been largely unoccupied for nearly two years now. This has raised concerns among community leaders, local business owners, and city officials who had initially high hopes for the area’s revival.
In 2021, a comprehensive plan was launched to breathe new life into the neighborhood by attracting businesses, revitalizing public spaces, and improving community engagement. Despite the city’s enthusiasm, tangible progress remains elusive. The area’s vacant properties have not been adequately revitalized or repurposed, and the streetscape remains largely unchanged.
The prolonged inactivity has not only led to a decline in economic activity in the area but also a decrease in foot traffic, resulting in further desolation. Local business owners report declining sales as a result of the lack of interest in the neighborhood. Moreover, the unoccupied houses and vacant storefronts have given rise to safety concerns, particularly at night when the area lies deserted.
