In the ongoing U.S.-Iran nuclear talks, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh’s colleague, Nasser Kanani’s, counterpart – the current Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman – is Baqaei. As talks and negotiations between both nations remain in limbo, Baqaei stated on Wednesday that Iran will not be deterred by U.S. proposed deadlines for negotiations.
“We are doing our own work. Look, we do our own work; we don’t pay attention to deadlines or timing,” Baqaei stated during a press briefing. Baqaei also emphasized that the matter is still under investigation and therefore, they would not be providing a response to the U.S. proposal prematurely.
It has been reported that the United States recently issued a proposal to Iran in hopes of reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoa), an international agreement aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions. However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has been slow to react.
Baqaei’s comments, made in response to a press inquiry, suggest that Iran is taking their time in reviewing the proposal and are not swayed by any U.S. imposed deadlines. Baqaei added: “As I mentioned to the press friends, look, the matter is still under investigation.” His statement reflects the Iranian government’s position and implies a cautious and measured response to the U.S. proposal.
The lack of urgency from the Iranian side could be a concern for the United States, which appears to be anxious to see progress in the talks. The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s stance, however, underscores the importance that Iranian authorities place on negotiations and the importance of not rushing the process.
While the Iranian government has stated that they are committed to a negotiated solution to the stalemate, their reluctance to be pressured by timelines highlights the delicate nature of negotiations and the potential for delays and complications. As the talks continue, the tension hangs between the U.S. and Iran regarding the timing of the negotiations and any potential breakthroughs.
As the talks remain ongoing, all eyes are on the Iranian government to see how they will respond to the U.S. proposal in due course. It remains to be seen how this latest development in the U.S.-Iran nuclear talks will play out and what implications it may have for the global community.
