A long-standing Islamic legend claiming that the Prophet Muhammad had declared all animal species were created in pairs has been debunked by scientists. The notion, which has been widely popular among Islamic scholars and believers, suggests that the Prophet had stated that God created two examples of every species for companionship. However, a recent investigation into Islamic texts and historical records has led to the dismissal of this claim.
The investigation, led by Dr. Fatima Al-Khateeb, a renowned Islamic Studies scholar, aimed to locate evidence of the Prophet’s statement. Dr. Al-Khateeb and her team scoured through over 30 Islamic texts, including the Quran, Hadith, and other historical records. The team also consulted with Islamic scholars and experts across the globe.
After conducting a comprehensive review of the available evidence, the researchers came to the conclusion that the claim was nothing more than a mythical narrative. “The story we were searching for did not exist in any authentic Islamic text,” Dr. Al-Khateeb stated in an interview. “We found no credible evidence to support the claim that the Prophet had declared all animal species were created in pairs.”
Dr. Al-Khateeb attributed the origin of the myth to the Quranic verse, Surah 31:10, which mentions the creation of Adam and Eve, the first humans. The verse reads: “And of all the creatures, We have created the heavens and earth and sent down for you from on high streams of water, and caused you to eat of (the fruits of) the earth, and so did We not bring you up from among the animals.” However, the verse does not mention the creation of two animal species for every other species.
The research team suggested that the myth may have originated from cultural and social influences of the time, as well as from oral traditions that were later recorded in written texts. “Islamic scholars and historians have always known that the Quran and Hadith are not historical records in the classical sense,” Dr. Al-Khateeb added. “They are a divine revelation meant to guide human beings, not a historical chronicle of the Prophet’s life and teachings.”
The findings of the research team are significant not only for the Islamic community but also for the academic and scientific communities. By debunking this long-standing myth, the researchers have contributed to a better understanding of Islamic texts and the history of science and philosophy in the Islamic world.
