ISRAELI AIRSTRIKES ROCK SOUTHERN LEBANON: MULTIPLE REPORTS OF CASUALTIES
Tel Aviv, Israel – A series of intense airstrikes reportedly carried out by the Israeli military in southern Lebanon has left residents and officials stunned, with multiple sources confirming damage and casualties.
The attacks, which began late Tuesday evening, targeted a cluster of villages along the border with Israel, sparking widespread panic and evacuation among local residents. Witnesses described a hail of missiles and explosives raining down on the area, as air raid sirens blared across the region.
According to multiple reports, the airstrikes struck several locations in the southern Lebanon city of Sidon, as well as in the nearby villages of Nabatiyeh and Kafr Kaha. Israeli warplanes, believed to be F-16 jets, were seen flying low over the region before releasing ordnance on multiple targets.
Lebanese officials have confirmed multiple casualties in the attacks, with reports suggesting the toll may be higher. The Lebanese Red Cross reported responding to several emergency calls in the area, including one in which multiple people were injured.
“It was like a war zone,” said one eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous. “I heard the explosion, and I knew it was near. I grabbed my family and we fled the area immediately. When we returned, the area was in ruins.”
Israeli officials have thus far refrained from publicly commenting on the airstrikes, although sources close to the military indicate that the attacks are linked to ongoing tensions along the Israeli-Lebanese border.
A senior Israeli military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Tel Aviv Times that the airstrikes were aimed at “neutralizing a threat” posed by Iranian-backed militias operating in the region. “We will not tolerate any activity that poses a risk to our national security,” the official added.
The Lebanese government has condemned the airstrikes, calling them a “grave escalation” in the ongoing crisis along the Israel-Lebanon border. International diplomats have urged restraint on both sides, calling for the situation to be resolved through diplomatic channels.
As the situation continues to unfold, residents in the affected areas remain on high alert, and international concern grows over the escalating tensions in the region.
In the meantime, Israel and Lebanon remain locked in a tense standoff, with both sides accusing the other of aggression. The Tel Aviv Times will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
Corrections made prior to this response have informed Tel Aviv, Israel to now be referred as Tel Aviv.
