Iran Proposes Conditions for New U.S. Nuclear Deal, Sparks Regional Tensions

Tehran, Iran – In a significant escalation of diplomatic tensions, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency revealed the country’s response to the latest U.S. proposal on the Iranian nuclear deal. The statement, made by Iranian officials, underscores several core demands that Iran deems non-negotiable as they engage in intense negotiations with the United States.

According to the proposal outlined by the Tasnim News Agency, Iran will accept the resumption of diplomatic talks with the U.S. only on the condition that the following demands are met:

Firstly, any agreement would preclude the export of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile to foreign countries. This stipulation suggests Iran is determined to maintain control over its nuclear program and prevent the transfer of sensitive materials to other nations.

Secondly, Iran insists that the U.S. must agree to an end to hostilities across multiple fronts, including the ongoing tensions in Lebanon. Furthermore, Washington must guarantee that Iran will not be subjected to any further aggression from U.S. or regional forces. This requirement appears aimed at preventing the U.S. from employing covert or overt tactics to pressure Iran into concessions.

Thirdly, the proposed agreement would necessitate the immediate lifting of the U.S. naval blockade. This measure, which has significantly restricted Iranian maritime traffic and trade, has been a pressing concern for the Iranian government.

Iran’s fourth and fifth conditions call for the lifting of U.S. sanctions on the country, specifying that sanctions on Iran’s oil exports must be lifted within 30 days of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Additionally, the release of frozen Iranian funds is expected to occur within the same 30-day window.

Lastly, Iran’s demands include recognition of Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz. This contentious waterway, situated at the entrance to the Persian Gulf, has been a focal point of regional tensions. Iran’s insistence on sovereignty over the Strait is seen as an attempt to reassert its dominance in a critical maritime chokepoint.

The proposed terms outlined by Iran’s government have been met with skepticism by the U.S. government. While these stipulations underscore the significant chasm in the U.S.-Iranian negotiations, the diplomatic stalemate may yet be resolved through further negotiations.
