Pakistani Authorities Dispute Allegations of Military Cooperation with Iran

Islamabad, Pakistan – In a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan’s government has firmly rejected a report published by CBS News claiming that Pakistan had allowed Iranian military aircraft to park on their airfields.

The report, which sparked widespread controversy and concern among regional and international leaders, alleged that Pakistan had compromised its sovereignty by permitting Iranian military forces to operate on its territory. In response, Pakistani authorities insist that this is a gross misrepresentation of facts.

Speaking on behalf of the Pakistani government, a senior diplomat stated, “We would like to categorically reject as baseless and false the allegations made by CBS News regarding the presence of Iranian military aircraft on Pakistani airfields. These claims are a flagrant misinterpretation of the facts and have been designed to cause alarm and misinformation amongst international stakeholders.”

Regarding the reported presence of Iranian aircraft and personnel at Islamabad’s Nur Khan Airbase, the diplomat clarified that these were indeed in Pakistan but their primary objective was logistical support rather than military coordination.

“Some aircraft and support personnel remained in Islamabad at Nur Khan Airbase after the initial round of negotiations with Iran”, the diplomat confirmed. “This was done as a precautionary measure due to heightened tensions and the anticipation of potential strikes in the area. However, we wish to emphasize that these personnel and assets were not part of any military contingents and had the sole objective of facilitating diplomatic discussions.”

Pakistan’s government also emphasized its adherence to non-alignment and commitment to regional stability. “We remain committed to maintaining our long-standing policy of neutrality in the face of external pressures and regional rivalries”, the diplomat stated.

This clarification by the Pakistani government is expected to help ease regional tensions and alleviate concerns regarding the perceived alignment between Islamabad and Tehran. In light of these developments, diplomatic efforts to address simmering tensions in the region are likely to intensify, with international involvement playing a crucial role in facilitating dialogue between major regional stakeholders.

As the situation continues to unfold, key players will be closely monitoring developments in the region for any potential indications of escalation.
