IRAQI POPULAR MOBILIZATION FORCES UNDERTAKE MILITARY OPERATION TO SECURE KEY HIGHWAY

Baghdad, Iraq – In a recent statement, Commander of Middle Euphrates Operations within the Popular Mobilization Forces Commission (PMF) Major General Ali Al-Hamdani announced the launch of a significant military operation targeting terrorist groups in the deserts of Najaf and Karbala provinces. The operation, dubbed ‘Imposing Sovereignty,’ aims to secure the pivotal highway connecting Karbala and the Nukhaib region, a strategic thoroughfare crucial for both regional and local economic interests.

According to Al-Hamdani, the military operation involves coordinated efforts from several operational axes under the PMF Commission, including the Middle Euphrates Operations Command, the Karbala Operations Command, and the Anbar Operations Command, in addition to the PMF’s 2nd Brigade. By pooling their resources, the participating forces are executing clearing and search operations, targeting terrorist hideouts and gathering intelligence up to a depth of 70 kilometers.

Major General Al-Hamdani emphasized that the operation is guided by precise military blueprints and conducted with a high level of professionalism, highlighting the careful planning and dedication of the PMF personnel. The military operation demonstrates the PMF’s commitment to maintaining Iraq’s territorial integrity and combating terrorism, which has plagued the country for years.

Regional observers note that the operation’s success is expected to have significant implications for the security dynamics in the region. The highway connecting Karbala and the Nukhaib region serves as a critical supply route, and its security is vital for the stability of Iraq’s southern provinces. By securing this key thoroughfare, the PMF is likely to weaken the capabilities of terrorist groups and prevent them from conducting large-scale operations in the region.

The launch of the ‘Imposing Sovereignty’ operation comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iraq and neighboring countries, particularly Israel. Baghdad and Tel Aviv have engaged in a series of diplomatic disputes in recent months, with tensions between the two countries running high. It remains to be seen how the operation will be perceived by regional stakeholders, including Iran, the United States, and other international actors with a vested interest in Iraq’s stability.

The operation’s successful execution is likely to be closely monitored by international observers, particularly given Baghdad’s fragile security situation. As the ‘Imposing Sovereignty’ operation continues to unfold, its implications for Iraq’s domestic and regional politics are likely to be far-reaching, with significant consequences for the country’s stability and security.
