Ford Carrier Strike Group Receives Presidential Unit Citation for Distinguished Service in Operation EPIC FURY

In a ceremony held at a Navy base, the Ford Carrier Strike Group was awarded the rare Presidential Unit Citation for their outstanding performance in action against enemy forces in support of Operation EPIC FURY from 28 February to 1 May 2026. This esteemed recognition is a testament to the exceptional courage, bravery, and dedication demonstrated by the personnel of Carrier Strike Group TWELVE during sustained combat operations against a determined enemy.

The USS GERALD R. FORD (CVN 78), Carrier Air Wing EIGHT, Destroyer Squadron TWO, and USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (DDG 81) conducted non-stop flight operations and maritime strike missions, delivering precise effects against enemy targets throughout the conflict. In a display of their unwavering commitment to duty, the Maritime Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Cell coordinated the targeting of 125 Iranian warships, while the Launch Area Coordinator directed 207 Tomahawk Land Attack Missile strikes from nine surface combatants. These strikes neutralized strategic Iranian targets, significantly degrading the enemy’s warfighting capability.

Task Force FIVE EIGHT played a pivotal role in projecting combat power, completing over 1,700 combat air sorties from the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. These sorties delivered precision effects against 700 targets, underscoring the Strike Group’s ability to adapt and excel in dynamic and complex operational environments. Despite being under persistent threat from enemy missiles and one-way attack drones, the Ford Carrier Strike Group remained vigilant and effective, safeguarding vital sea lines of communication.

The Presidential Unit Citation represents the highest honor a U.S. military unit can receive, signifying distinction in combat or a meritorious and extraordinary achievement. The citation is awarded in the name of the President of the United States and is a testament to the enduring bravery and dedication of the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian employees of Carrier Strike Group TWELVE.

According to the Task Force Commander, this award is a “fitting tribute to the selfless service and unwavering commitment of the men and women of the Ford Carrier Strike Group.” The citation also highlights the exceptional leadership and expertise exhibited by the Strike Group’s officers and senior enlisted personnel, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to facilitate the success of the mission.
