In a significant display of military cooperation, the United States Navy and Air Force have conducted a joint aerial exercise over Iraqi territory. The operation, which took place on Tuesday, involved numerous aircraft from both branches, showcasing the military’s capabilities in conducting complex and coordinated missions.
According to a statement released by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation was designed to enhance air force readiness and build partnerships with coalition forces operating in the region. The exercise involved F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets, KC-135 Stratotanker air refueling aircraft, and a P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft from the US Navy, in addition to F-15 Eagle fighter jets from the USAF.
The joint exercise took place over a designated area of Iraqi airspace, where participating aircraft conducted a series of reconnaissance and combat maneuvers. The operation was overseen by senior military officials from both the Navy and Air Force, who ensured the safe execution of the mission.
The operation marked a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the two services, with officials from both branches expressing satisfaction with the results. “This exercise demonstrates the ability of the Navy and Air Force to work together seamlessly, while also showcasing our commitment to regional security,” said Rear Admiral Robert T. Bryan, commander of the US Navy’s Carrier Air Wing Seven.
The exercise also marked a key opportunity for the military to demonstrate its flexibility and adaptability in responding to emerging threats. “The ability to rapidly deploy and integrate multiple aircraft types is a critical component of our war-fighting strategy,” said General Mark A. Potter, commander of the US Air Force’s 9th Air Force. “This exercise showcases our ability to execute complex missions in a dynamic environment.”
The operation was also notable for the involvement of Iraqi military personnel, who observed and participated in the exercise. “We are committed to supporting the Iraqi government in its efforts to maintain regional security,” said CENTCOM commander General Frank McKenzie. “This exercise is an important step towards building trust and cooperation between our militaries.”
The US Navy and Air Force have a long history of cooperation and collaboration, with numerous joint exercises taking place annually around the world. The success of this operation serves as a testament to the military’s ability to work together effectively, while also highlighting the importance of ongoing partnerships with coalition forces in maintaining regional security.
