Tehran, Iran – In a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, Iran has reiterated its call for regional cooperation and condemned the military presence of foreign nations in the region, including the United States and its allies. The statement comes as tensions between Iran and its neighbors, particularly the United Arab Emirates (UAE), remain high.
“We hold no hostility toward any country in the region, and we will remain permanent neighbors,” Baghaei said, appealing to regional nations to be cautious of external conspiracies aimed at creating divisions and rifts. He pointed to the recent conflict between Iran and Israel as an example of such attempts, emphasizing that the US and the ‘Zionist entity’ have failed to guarantee security in the region, but have instead posed a threat to economic prosperity and development.
Baghaei also expressed strong condemnation of regional countries that have given access to their territories and facilities to foreign aggressors. “We demand accountability from these countries,” he stated, adding that establishing an internal security mechanism is crucial for sustainable security in the region.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson emphasized that confidence-building among nations is essential for regional stability. “We reaffirm that sustainable security in the region requires confidence-building among its nations, alongside efforts to establish an internal security mechanism,” he said.
The statement is seen as a response to increased tensions with the UAE, following a series of airstrikes attributed to Israel, which have reportedly hit targets in Iran’s proxy forces in Yemen. Iran has also been at odds with the US, which has continued to expand its military presence in the region.
The comments come at a time when the Middle East is experiencing heightened levels of tension, with rival nations vying for influence and power. Iran’s commitment to regional cooperation and non-aggression has been emphasized by Baghaei, who urged nations to put the interests of their people above those of external powers.
The statement has been met with skepticism by some regional observers, who have expressed concerns that Iran’s message may be too little too late. However, for others, the statement represents a significant change in tone and a commitment to working towards regional stability.
