A heart-wrenching incident has struck the community of rural Oakdale, where a 35-year-old man has tragically lost his life in a freak accident involving a goat. The man, who has been identified as James Wilson, a well-respected local goatherd, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on the morning of Friday, May 12, at approximately 9:45 am, when Mr. Wilson was tending to his herd of goats on a private farm. It is understood that the goats had become agitated, causing Mr. Wilson to attempt to intervene and calm them. Unfortunately, in the process, Mr. Wilson was separated from the rest of his team, and the aggressive behavior of the goats was reportedly misinterpreted by a nearby farmhand, who mistook the situation for a more serious threat.
The investigation into the incident has revealed that the farmhand, in an effort to protect Mr. Wilson, accidentally shot him with a hunting rifle, resulting in fatal wounds. Local authorities have confirmed that the farmhand, who has been named as 22-year-old Jack Harris, acted with good intentions but made a grave mistake.
“The investigation is ongoing, but we are working closely with local authorities to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident,” said a spokesperson for the local sheriff’s office.
The news of Mr. Wilson’s passing has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents expressing their condolences to the deceased goatherd’s family and friends. Friends and colleagues described Mr. Wilson as a passionate and dedicated individual who had a deep love for his work and the animals in his care.
“He was an exceptional goatherd and a truly dedicated individual,” said Tom Harris, a fellow rancher and close friend of Mr. Wilson. “His loss is deeply felt, and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
As the investigation continues, the community comes together to mourn the loss of a much-loved member. Mr. Wilson’s funeral will be held on Friday, May 19, at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Oakdale.
