TURKISH ARMED FORCES DISPLAY AMBITIOUS AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT CAPABILITIES DURING EFES-2026 EXERCISE

Turkish Armed Forces showcased their amphibious assault capabilities in a spectacular display of coordination and precision during the ongoing annual EFES-2026 exercise in the Aegean region. Conducted by the Turkish Land Forces Command, the operation highlights the military’s commitment to enhancing its amphibious warfare capabilities as part of its modernization efforts.

At the heart of the operation was the TCG ANADOLU, a cutting-edge drone carrier ship that served as the command center for the exercise. From this platform, the Turkish military orchestrated a large-scale amphibious assault that saw the deployment of ZAHA armored amphibious assault vehicles, Landing Craft Mechanized (LCMs), and Landing Craft Vehicle-Personnel (LCVPs) across two designated beach landing zones.

Simultaneously, a wave of 30 next-generation Karayel boats carried troops from the Amphibious Corps, 19th Commando Brigade, and Combat Engineer Battalion to the landing zones. These vessels played a critical role in the operation, providing a secure and efficient means of transporting troops and equipment across the water.

In a crucial aspect of the operation, mine clearance teams utilized autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to detect and destroy obstacles ahead of the landings. This ensured that the amphibious forces could approach the beaches with minimal risk. Providing simultaneous fire support for the assault were ATAK helicopters, artillery, and snipers, which conducted precision strikes against designated targets.

The integration of advanced technologies, such as AUVs and drones, into the amphibious assault highlighted the Turkish military’s efforts to stay ahead of the curve in terms of innovation and modernization. This exercise demonstrates the military’s ability to adapt to emerging threats and enhance its capabilities to address complex security challenges.

The deployment of armored amphibious assault vehicles, such as the ZAHA, showcases the Turkish Armed Forces’ commitment to modernize its equipment and enhance its ability to conduct amphibious operations. These vehicles provide a critical capability for landing troops and equipment in high-threat environments, allowing the military to respond quickly and decisively in a range of crisis scenarios.

The success of the EFES-2026 exercise serves as a testament to the Turkish military’s commitment to excellence and its dedication to enhancing its capabilities to address emerging security challenges in the region.
