ANKARA, TURKEY – In a display of coordinated air assault operations, Turkish military forces successfully conducted the third lift of the ongoing EFES-2026 exercise. As part of the deployment, over 21 aircraft, including specialized attack helicopters and cargo transport helicopters, played a pivotal role in transporting personnel from the 19th Commando Brigade to the forward operating area.
The 19th Commando Brigade, an elite Turkish military unit, executed a rapid and secretive deployment between Dutlukuyu and Alankır Hill. This strategic maneuver showcased the Turkish military’s capability to swiftly respond to a wide range of contingencies. The 21 aircraft involved in the operation included four T-129 ATAK attack helicopters, three CH-47 Chinooks, four AS-532s, and ten S-70s.
Throughout the operation, Turkish S-70 helicopters proved their versatility, not only by deploying troops but also by evacuating wounded personnel to a mobile field hospital. In addition, these helicopters skillfully carried external loads, including command-and-control vehicles and a 105mm BORAN howitzer. These advanced aerial transport capabilities highlighted the Turkish military’s adaptability and technological prowess.
The deployment was facilitated through meticulous planning and efficient coordination among the participating aircraft and ground forces. Turkish military command emphasized the importance of seamless communication, precise timing, and strategic situational awareness in executing the successful operation.
Commenting on the exercise, an unnamed Turkish military official highlighted the significance of the deployment: “EFES-2026 has provided us with a valuable opportunity to test our military’s capabilities in a realistic and dynamic environment. This exercise demonstrates the Turkish Armed Forces’ ability to rapidly mobilize and respond to emerging threats, ensuring the protection of our nation and our allies.”
The ongoing EFES-2026 exercise is a biennial joint military exercise conducted by participating NATO member states, including Turkey, the United States, Germany, and Italy. The exercise aims to enhance regional defense coordination, interoperability, and military preparedness.
In an official statement, the Turkish Ministry of Defense underscored the importance of military preparedness and modernization: “Turkey’s participation in joint military exercises underscores the country’s commitment to regional stability, defense cooperation, and the protection of its sovereignty. We are proud to demonstrate our military’s capabilities and technological advancements during EFES-2026.”
As the exercise continues, the participating forces are set to conduct additional training and evaluation exercises, further solidifying their capabilities and regional security commitments.
