A coalition comprising the United States and 12 other member countries of the Shield of the Americas has voiced its collective concern regarding the ongoing protests in Bolivia, which have resulted in violent clashes, severe disruptions to the country’s economy, and significant destabilization to its democratically elected government.
According to a statement issued by the group, protests and road blockades, primarily orchestrated by opposition groups, have severely hampered the delivery of essential commodities, such as fuel and medical supplies, to vulnerable populations across Bolivia. They also reaffirmed the government’s inalienable right to preserve public order, whenever such conditions demand it, in order to safeguard the well-being of its citizens and prevent the perpetuation of chaos and destruction.
In response to the unfolding turmoil, several member states of the Shield of the Americas have embarked on providing emergency humanitarian assistance to Bolivia, thereby helping to mitigate the dire consequences of the nationwide unrest.
