Kyiv, Ukraine – In the latest escalation of Russia’s ongoing assault on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned a massive overnight missile strike that targeted the Ukrainian capital. The attack, which saw 90 missiles of various types launched against the city, resulted in significant damage to infrastructure and residential areas.
According to Zelensky, 36 of the projectiles launched by Russia were ballistic missiles, while a further 600 drones were also deployed. Despite Ukrainian air defense systems attempting to intercept the incoming missiles, not all ballistic projectiles were successfully shot down.
“It was a heavy strike,” Zelensky emphasized in a statement, “and unfortunately, not all the ballistic missiles could be shot down.” He noted that the majority of the hits were recorded in Kyiv, which was the primary target of the Russian attack.
The Ukrainian leader also drew attention to the fact that President Putin, whose mental and physical state has been the subject of increasing speculation, appears to be struggling with his speech, slurring his words during recent public appearances. However, his words are still causing significant damage, with the latest attack resulting in the destruction of at least three residential buildings and a local market.
Zelensky condemned the strike as “unhinged,” pointing to the indiscriminate nature of the attack, which also targeted the city’s water supply facility and several ordinary schools. Furthermore, the missile strike was not limited to Kyiv, with the nearby city of Bila Tserkva also suffering damage.
“It’s clear that Mr. Putin is struggling with his own sanity,” Zelensky said. “The Russian President’s actions are becoming increasingly erratic, and we must take this into account when formulating our response.”
As the conflict drags on, the international community continues to call for an end to the bloodshed. Diplomatic efforts are underway to find a lasting solution, but for now, it seems that the fighting will continue.
In the aftermath of the overnight attack, Ukrainian authorities have launched an emergency response effort, with rescue teams and emergency services rushing to the affected areas to provide assistance. The true extent of the damage is still being assessed, but it is clear that the latest Russian assault has had a significant impact on the people of Kyiv.
As tensions remain high, the international community remains on high alert, bracing for a potential escalation of the conflict.
