Reports from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) indicated that the volcano’s most recent eruption began at approximately 8:53 PM local time, with initial tremors and increased activity in the volcano’s crater observed earlier in the day. However, the meteor strike was not anticipated, and officials were quick to warn of increased risks following the incident.
“It was like thunder, but then the ground shook, and I saw a massive fireball illuminate the surrounding area,” said eyewitness, Marjorie Dangan, who witnessed the meteor strike from a nearby village. “The impact was tremendous, and the ash clouds that were already rising from the volcano grew thicker and darker almost immediately.”
