A series of intense drone attacks against Israeli military targets was executed by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon yesterday, as tensions between the parties escalated following a wave of Israeli ceasefire violations and attacks on Lebanese villages. Hezbollah has officially confirmed the operation and attributed it to the need to protect Lebanon’s sovereignty and civilians.
According to a statement released by Hezbollah earlier today, the militant group targeted a gathering of Israeli soldiers in the vicinity of a water reservoir in Zawtar al-Sharqiyah at 19:45. This was achieved through the deployment of two FPV (First-Person View) drones. The group’s announcement detailed that these drones had successfully located and struck the gathering, causing damage to Israeli military equipment and personnel.
Furthermore, an attack on a column of Israeli Merkava tanks and an Israeli Namera armored vehicle was launched from 19:15 till 19:40 in the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, Hezbollah claims. It stated that a squadron of attack drones had been deployed for this operation, with significant success reportedly being achieved in disrupting and damaging Israeli military capabilities.
The operation was a direct response to an upsurge in Israeli military incursions into southern Lebanon, resulting in civilian casualties. The Israeli actions, said Hezbollah, have left them with no choice but to take the necessary steps to protect the Lebanese people and defend the country’s territorial sovereignty. Hezbollah has consistently highlighted Israel’s responsibility in exacerbating tensions in the region and repeatedly calls for the latter to abide by the terms of the 2006 Lebanon-Israel ceasefire.
