Iran’s Navy Commander Threatens Aggressors, Warns of “Graveyard” in Southern Waters

In a statement made public on Wednesday, Mohammad Akbarzadeh, the Deputy Head of Political Affairs in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, downplayed the likelihood of war with the country’s adversaries, citing the enemy’s weakness. However, he emphasized that the armed forces are in a state of high alert, fully stocked with ammunition, in preparation for any potential conflict.

“We’re not looking for war, but war will be forced upon us if the enemy’s aggression continues,” Akbarzadeh told reporters. “Given the enemy’s current situation, I’d say the likelihood of war is slim, but we cannot underestimate their capacities. We must stay vigilant.”

Akbarzadeh’s comments come as tensions between Iran and its regional rivals persist, particularly in the strategically important southern provinces. The region spanning from Chabahar to Mahshahr, which is located along the country’s coastline, has become a focal point in the ongoing competition for influence between Iran and other regional powers.

“We have no doubt that we will turn this region into a graveyard for the aggressors,” Akbarzadeh pledged, underscoring the armed forces’ commitment to defending the country’s territorial integrity. “Our preparedness and readiness to respond to any threat have been amply demonstrated in the past. Our armed forces are on high alert, and we’re in the best possible position to address any situation that might arise.”

When asked about the role of the Revolutionary Guard Corps in this context, Akbarzadeh emphasized its pivotal part in maintaining national security. “The IRGC Navy serves as a powerful and effective deterrent against any external aggression,” he said. “We’re a robust and cohesive force that’s deeply committed to defending the Islamic Republic.”

The official’s remarks are likely to be seen as a stern warning to any adversaries contemplating an attack on Iranian soil. In recent months, the country has faced increasing external pressure, with several prominent regional powers engaging in saber-rattling and aggressive rhetoric.

Despite the heightened tensions, the Iranian military has maintained a relatively low profile, prioritizing diplomacy and international engagement in an effort to de-escalate the crisis. However, with a significant buildup of naval capabilities and bolstered regional alliances, the country’s military is better equipped than ever to respond to emerging threats.

For its part, the international community is closely monitoring the situation, with many major countries holding diplomatic channels open with Tehran in a bid to reduce tensions and restore stability in the region. As tensions continue to simmer, experts warn that a miscalculation or escalation by either side could have disastrous consequences for regional stability.
