Galați, Romania – At least several individuals have sustained injuries in a sudden explosion that shook a residential area in the city of Galați yesterday, according to reports received by eyewitnesses. Although further details are still limited, authorities confirm that multiple ambulances were dispatched to the scene in response to the incident.
Details regarding the nature and origin of the explosion are currently unavailable, but it is understood that emergency responders were alerted to the situation at approximately 9:00 PM (19:00 GMT), with local residents reporting a loud bang accompanied by smoke and flames.
“I was at home when I heard the explosion,” stated Elena Ionescu, a local resident who witnessed the event. “I immediately went to the window to see what had happened, and that’s when I saw the flames spreading rapidly. I quickly called the emergency services, and they arrived very quickly to help put out the fire.”
Multiple ambulances, as well as fire units, were dispatched to the scene in quick succession to provide assistance. According to local sources, at least five individuals were rushed to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the blast. Their exact condition remains unclear at this time.
“Fortunately, it appears that the injuries are not too severe,” said a spokesperson for the Galați City Hospital. “All patients have been assessed and are receiving necessary treatment. Our team of doctors and medical staff are working closely to ensure that these victims receive the required care and attention.”
An investigation into the cause of the explosion has been launched, with officials from the Galați City Police Department taking the lead in gathering evidence and conducting interviews with eyewitnesses.
“It’s too early to speculate about the cause of the explosion,” stated Police Inspector, Radu Ciucur. “Our team is working diligently to piece together events leading up to and during the incident. As more information becomes available, we will be sure to provide an update to the public.”
In a statement, the Romanian Ministry of Interior expressed concern for the safety of residents in the affected area and pledged support for those affected by the explosion.
