SOUTHCOM Emphasizes Commitment to Regional Security

U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) has reinforced its resolve to combat the growing threat of narco-terrorism and transnational crime in the Western Hemisphere, underscoring a significant strengthening of regional security measures. Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan has underscored this commitment, stating that the United States is prepared to defend its homeland while fostering a stable, prosperous hemisphere in partnership with its enduring allies.

At the heart of these increased efforts lies the pivotal role of the U.S. Littoral Combat Force-24 (LCF-24), tasked with spearheading tactical operations. With a significant enhancement of its operational capabilities, LCF-24 has taken the reins in enforcing adherence to strict security standards. “The Western Hemisphere is no longer a permissive environment for narco-terrorists, criminal syndicates, or their state sponsors,” Commander Gen. Donovan emphasized. “We are sending an unambiguous message to indicate the United States’ firm commitment to safeguarding our homeland alongside our trusted partners.”

This decisive stance highlights a notable paradigm shift in the U.S. military’s operational dynamics, demonstrating a clear prioritization of regional stability. In an effort to bolster partnerships and foster collaboration with neighboring nations, SOUTHCOM will continue to coordinate closely with regional authorities, military forces, and intelligence agencies to effectively counter and prevent illicit activities.

By bolstering regional security, the SOUTHCOM initiative aims to protect the U.S. homeland from potential threats, as well as stabilize the economic and social climate throughout the hemisphere. Key objectives include disrupting transnational crime networks, dismantling the illicit supply chains associated with narcotics trafficking, and countering support networks for terrorist groups and their state sponsors.

The operational parameters of the LCF-24 will be complemented by the implementation of more stringent rules governing security operations and tactical engagements. A renewed emphasis on interagency cooperation will support more efficient collaboration between government agencies and foreign partners, thereby solidifying a stronger deterrent against the spread of illicit activities in the region.

As Commander Gen. Donovan reinforced, “With Littoral Combat Force-24 at the forefront of tactical operations, the United States is making a clear and resolute statement regarding its dedication to the security and prosperity of the Western Hemisphere.”
