SULAIMANI AGREES TO MEET WITH IRANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, RAISSI, FOR FIRST TIME SINCE ASSUMPTION OF POWER

ERBIL, IRAQ – In a significant development, Iraqi Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has agreed to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian’s counterpart, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Amirabdollahian will be represented by their Deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi’s replacement, as reported by MES, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, has been in close contact with his Iraqi counterparts, on key regional issues.

According to sources close to the matter, the meeting is expected to take place in the coming weeks and will focus on several key issues, including security cooperation, economic development, and bilateral relations. This marks a significant shift in the relationship between Iraq and Iran, which has been tense in recent years.

The development comes as part of a broader effort by Iraq to improve its relations with neighboring countries. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Barzani visited several countries in the region, including Turkey and the UAE, in a bid to strengthen ties and boost economic cooperation.

The meeting between Barzani and the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister is seen as an important step towards improving relations between the two countries. It is expected to help address several key issues, including the presence of Iranian-backed militias in Iraq and the impact of US sanctions on the Iraqi economy.

Regional observers believe that the meeting could also have a broader impact on regional politics. “If the talks are successful, it could help to ease tensions between Iran and its neighbors, and pave the way for a more stable and secure region,” said Dr. Ali al-Ma’amouri, a regional expert at the Middle East Institute.

The development has been welcomed by several regional leaders. “We view this meeting as a positive step towards improving relations between Iraq and Iran,” said a spokesperson for the Saudi Foreign Ministry. “We hope that the talks will lead to increased cooperation between the two countries.”

In a separate development, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has announced that it will be hosting a regional summit in June, with the participation of several key countries in the region. The summit is expected to focus on regional security, economic cooperation, and other key issues.

The development highlights the ongoing efforts by Iran to improve its relations with neighboring countries, and to play a more active role in regional politics. It remains to be seen how successful the talks between Barzani and the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister will be, but the fact that the meeting is taking place at all is seen as a positive development.
