Israeli Military Carries Out Broad Aerial and Artillery Assault on Southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, LEBANON – In a late-night and coordinated military operation, Israeli forces launched a series of airstrikes, drone strikes, and artillery shelling against multiple towns in southern Lebanon. The offensive, carried out by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), targeted areas in the Nabatieh and Sour districts, leading to reports of damage and casualties.

According to eyewitnesses, the airstrikes, which began in the early hours of the morning, targeted the following settlements: Dibbine, Blat, Deir Qanoun Al-Nahr, Kfarremman, Deir El-Zahrani, Majdalzoun, and Nabatieh. Additionally, drone strikes were reportedly carried out in Al-Qusaybah and Al-Sharqiyah. Artillery shelling, also attributed to the IDF, was directed at Dibbine, Kfarjouz, and Kfarremmen.

“It was like thunder in the sky,” said a resident of Nabatieh, who wished to remain anonymous. “We woke up to explosions and loud rumbling sounds. We ran for cover, and the noise continued for what felt like hours. It was terrifying.”

Witnesses describe the Israeli airstrikes as intense and prolonged, with some reporting multiple consecutive explosions in the same area. The strikes have caused significant damage to buildings, homes, and infrastructure, with some areas reportedly left without electricity or running water.

As of press time, there are reports of casualties and injuries, although the exact number and nature of the casualties remain unclear. Local medical officials and relief organizations are working to respond to the situation, providing aid and assistance to those affected.

The Israeli military has not publicly commented on the reasons behind the airstrikes, but tensions have been escalating in the region in recent days. The IDF has maintained a military presence along the Israeli-Lebanese border, citing concerns over Hezbollah’s activities and potential security threats.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with calls for restraint and de-escalation emerging from various nations. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has issued a statement expressing concern over the situation and urging all parties to maintain calm.

In response to the violence, Lebanese authorities have called an emergency meeting to discuss the situation and possible responses. The incident underscores the ongoing tensions between Israel and Lebanon, with fears of a larger conflict growing as the region remains in a state of heightened security alertness.
