BEIRUT, Lebanon – In a sudden escalation of tensions, Israeli warplanes have conducted airstrikes on several locations in southern Lebanon, targeting areas known for their suspected militant presence. According to reports from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), the strikes occurred in the towns of Blat, Jebchit, Dbayeh, and Kfar Sir.
Initial reports indicate that the airstrikes commenced late Tuesday evening, amidst increasing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border. Local residents described hearing explosions and the sound of artillery being fired in the direction of the Israeli border.
“I was at home when the bombing started,” said a resident of Jebchit, who wished to remain anonymous. “The windows were shaking, and I could hear the planes overhead. It was terrifying.”
The targets of the airstrikes are located near the Israeli border, an area where the Israeli military has been known to conduct operations against militant groups. However, the Lebanese government has repeatedly denied the presence of such groups in the area.
Lebanese officials have condemned the airstrikes as “barbaric” and a “clear attempt to destabilize the region.” The LAF has vowed to take action to protect civilians and prevent further escalation.
In a statement, the LAF pledged to “uphold the country’s sovereignty and defend its territory against any aggression.” The military said that all necessary measures would be taken to prevent an escalation of the situation.
The airstrikes also drew condemnation from regional powers, with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah calling them a “flagrant aggression” against Lebanese sovereignty. Nasrallah stated that Hezbollah would not stand idly by in the face of such actions.
The conflict has raised concerns among regional leaders, who are working to de-escalate tensions and prevent a larger conflict from erupting. Diplomatic efforts are underway to address the situation, but the immediate fate of Lebanon and Israel’s southern border remains uncertain.
As the situation continues to unfold, residents in the affected areas are on high alert, bracing for further potential strikes. With no indication of when the airstrikes would cease, the people of Lebanon continue to live in fear of the next attack, and the long-term implications for the region’s fragile peace remain to be seen.
