In a move aimed at deterring the ongoing attacks on Israeli cities and citizens, the Israeli government on Thursday ordered the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to launch targeted strikes against the terrorist organization Hezbollah, which has repeatedly violated the ceasefire in Lebanon.
According to a statement released by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, the decision to engage Hezbollah targets came in response to the group’s repeated aggression along the Lebanon-Israel border. The statement emphasized that the Israeli government would not tolerate ongoing attacks on its citizens and cities, and would take robust action to defend its national security.
“We have made it clear that we will not tolerate repeated attacks on our cities and citizens by the terrorist organization Hezbollah,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu. “We will take all necessary measures to defend our national security and protect our people.”
Defense Minister Katz added, “We have informed the international community that we will not hesitate to take military action against any group that chooses to attack Israel. The Israeli Defense Forces are prepared to strike at the core of the Hezbollah terrorist network in Beirut.”
According to the Israeli government, the first wave of targeted strikes would focus on key areas within the Dahiyeh district of Beirut, a stronghold for the Hezbollah terrorist organization. The strikes are expected to involve a combination of precision-guided munitions and special operations forces tasked with neutralizing key Hezbollah targets.
The Israeli government emphasized that the recent escalation in violence had been triggered by Hezbollah’s increasing aggression, which had included the firing of rockets and missiles into Israeli territory. The group’s actions, the statement noted, had not only put Israeli lives at risk but also demonstrated a blatant disregard for regional stability and security.
Israeli officials expressed confidence that the military action would deliver a decisive blow to Hezbollah’s capabilities and send a clear message to the group about the consequences of its actions.
The Israeli military has been on high alert in recent days, with troops and equipment deployed along the Lebanon-Israel border. The military has also conducted several air and ground operations against Hezbollah targets in recent months, aimed at disrupting the group’s logistics and supply chain.
The United States and other international partners have expressed their support for Israel’s right to self-defense, although diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Lebanon remain ongoing.
