In a significant victory for national security, a federal jury delivered guilty verdicts against all nine defendants accused of participating in a high-profile July 4, 2025 ambush on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Texas. The coordinated attack aimed to inflict harm on federal officers and disrupt the country’s immigration enforcement efforts.
At the center of the prosecution was Daniel Rolando Sanchez-Estrada, a Mexican national, who was convicted of conspiracy to conceal documents and corruptly concealing documents or records related to the assault. His partner, Maricela Rueda, was found guilty of conspiring to conceal documents after allegedly advising Sanchez-Estrada to hide her far-left extremist texts.
During the trial, prosecutors presented strong evidence, including witness testimony and physical evidence seized from the suspects. Jurors were shown a large cache of weapons and ammunition recovered from the suspects’ possession, including over 50 firearms acquired in the Fort Worth-Dallas area prior to the attack. Investigators also uncovered evidence of Antifa and anarchist ideology, including mobile phones stored in Faraday bags designed to block signals, which were linked to the group’s communication networks.
The court proceedings were not without controversy, as a one-week delay was required due to a mistrial declared during jury selection. The judge had learned that a defense attorney was wearing a left-wing political shirt, potentially influencing the impartiality of the jury pool. Antifa supporters had also circulated false claims online alleging that one of the injured officers had faked their injuries.
Responding to the verdict, former Attorney General Pamela Bondi hailed the outcome of the trial as a significant step towards dismantling the far-left extremist group. “Today’s verdict on terrorism charges will not be the last as the Trump administration systematically dismantles Antifa and finally halts their violence on America’s streets,” she stated.
FBI Director Kash Patel also expressed his agency’s commitment to identifying and dismantling Antifa’s funding networks nationwide. “Today’s verdict shows the FBI remains committed to identifying, locating, and dismantling Antifa and its funding networks across the country,” he said.
While some defendants visibly reacted with emotional distress to the verdict, with two of them being ejected from the courtroom and one ringleader seen smirking, the guilty verdicts mark a decisive blow to the Texas Antifa cell and an important milestone in the ongoing battle against domestic terrorism.
