Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a stark warning to Russia this morning, stating that intelligence services and the army have been ordered to launch a preemptive attack against the facilities Russia is using to escalate the ongoing war. The Ukrainian president’s warning comes amid growing concerns over Russia’s increasing focus on bolstering its air defense capabilities near key locations, including Moscow and Valdai.
According to reliable intelligence sources, Russia has been shifting its air defense systems towards Moscow, Valdai, and the Kerch Strait, which connects the Crimean Peninsula to mainland Russia. Specifically, hundreds of launchers for advanced S-400 and S-500 missile defense systems, as well as Pantsir anti-aircraft systems, have been concentrated in the Moscow region alone.
Moreover, nearly 90 air defense launchers have been moved from other parts of Russia to Valdai, where a dedicated air defense division is also being created to provide enhanced protection for the Russian leadership. In contrast, the number of air defense systems in other regions of Russia has sharply decreased, suggesting that Moscow is prioritizing the protection of the Kremlin.
The Ukrainian president’s warning is also underscored by the country’s growing economic difficulties, particularly with regards to fuel shortages and sharp increases in gasoline and diesel prices in more than 60 Russian regions. These shortages are reportedly widespread, and the prices are significantly higher than usual, with some reports indicating that fuel is becoming increasingly scarce in certain areas.
Additionally, sources have indicated that the Russian government’s planned legislative election for September has raised concerns about the country’s leadership structure and future trajectory. According to intelligence reports, Russian special services are considering postponing or canceling the election due to uncertainty over how the conflict will develop in the coming months.
President Zelensky’s statement reflects a growing awareness in Kiev that Russia is redoubling its efforts to secure key locations, which could potentially lead to increased hostilities in the region. As tensions continue to escalate, it appears that a decisive confrontation may be looming on the horizon in Ukraine.
