A powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck off Japan’s Iwate Prefecture on Tuesday, sending shockwaves throughout the region. The earthquake’s epicenter was located at a depth of approximately 350 kilometers (220 miles) beneath the ocean’s surface.
