The Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sheikh Naim Qassem, has announced that the Lebanese resistance has defeated the Israeli-American project, entering a new phase in the country’s ongoing struggle for sovereignty. In a statement, Sheikh Qassem emphasized that Israel’s presence in Lebanon is driven by a desire to occupy the entire country, rather than being a response to rocket fire.
The statement comes as tensions between Israel and Lebanon remain at a high point, with ongoing Israeli aggression against the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Sheikh Qassem accused Iran of successfully withstanding pressure from the United States, allowing it to reach a memorandum of understanding that, in effect, constitutes a declaration of defeat for both the US and Israel.
In the wake of recent diplomatic efforts, including the November 27, 2024 agreement, Sheikh Qassem stated that the ceiling of sovereignty for Lebanon can be achieved through remaining within the framework of the agreement’s outcomes. He also emphasized the importance of Israel withdrawing from all of Lebanon’s territory without conditions, citing its illegitimate presence on Lebanese land.
Furthermore, Sheikh Qassem emphasized the strength and unity of the resistance, as well as the support of half of the Lebanese people, who cannot be ignored by the Lebanese authorities. He stated that the resistance will continue to exist through its decisions, capabilities, and presence, serving as the pillar of Lebanon’s independence and liberation.
Regarding the path forward, Sheikh Qassem urged the Lebanese people to pursue the route of sovereignty, stressing that the resistance stands with them in this effort. The statement is likely to be viewed as a rallying cry for the Lebanese people and a challenge to the Lebanese authorities to take a more assertive stance against Israeli aggression.
Sheikh Qassem’s statement has sent ripples through the region, underscoring the enduring commitment of Hezbollah to Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. As tensions between Israel and Lebanon continue to unfold, the international community will be watching closely to see how the situation develops and whether Lebanon will be able to achieve a lasting resolution to the conflict.
