The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has released a video and statements confirming last night’s military strikes on Iranian militia targets. The operation, which was authorized by US President Joe Biden, aimed to disrupt the ability of Iranian forces to launch attacks against US personnel and interests in the region.
According to CENTCOM statement, precision strikes were carried out against three Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) facilities, located in the provinces of Al-Anbar and Al-Kut in Iraq. The US military targeted sites where IRGC had been storing advanced drones and missile technology, which had been used to attack US coalition personnel and Iraqi forces.
The strikes were conducted using a combination of manned and unmanned aircraft, and resulted in significant damage to the targeted facilities. CENTCOM reported that the strikes were “precise and effective,” and that no civilian casualties were reported.
The video, released by CENTCOM, shows footage of the strikes, including a series of explosions at the IRGC facilities. The video also includes footage of US aircraft conducting the strikes, as well as personnel from the US military surveying the damage after the operation.
The US military action comes in response to a series of attacks by Iranian-backed militias against US coalition forces and interests in the region. In recent weeks, there have been a number of reported incidents of Iranian-backed forces launching rocket and drone attacks against US personnel, leading to concerns about the growing threat posed by Iran’s proxy forces.
Pentagon officials have emphasized that the strikes were a necessary response to the increasing aggression by Iranian-backed forces, and that the US military will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its personnel and interests in the region.
“This operation demonstrates our resolve to protect our personnel and our interests, and to hold accountable those who would seek to harm us,” said a senior Pentagon official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The strikes have been welcomed by some of Washington’s allies in the region, who have long been critical of Iranian aggression. The Iraqi government also released a statement welcoming the US action, saying that it “reaffirms the importance of our relationship with the United States and our commitment to combating terrorism.”
However, the US military action has also been criticized by some regional leaders, who have expressed concerns about the potential escalation of the conflict. The situation remains volatile, and it remains to be seen how the Iranian government will respond to the US strikes.
