Iranian MP Accuses US of Violating Ceasefire During Ongoing Negotiations

TEHRAN, IRAN – A senior Iranian member of parliament has condemned the latest U.S. military action against Iran, labeling it a reckless violation of the ceasefire and a testament to the country’s failed commitment to peaceful negotiations.

Ebrahim Azizi, a key figure in Iran’s diplomatic efforts, issued a statement late yesterday expressing outrage and frustration over the recent U.S. strike, which he claimed undermines the spirit of ongoing negotiations between the two nations.

“The failed U.S. president has once again proven that he has no commitment to the principles of negotiation and ceasefire,” Azizi said, accusing the U.S. of sabotaging diplomatic efforts through military force.

Azizi’s comments come as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high, with multiple rounds of talks in recent months struggling to yield significant breakthroughs. Despite efforts to revive the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – also known as the Iran nuclear deal – fundamental differences between the two sides persist.

The latest U.S. military action, carried out in a disputed region of Iran, has triggered widespread condemnation in the Iranian parliament, with many lawmakers calling for stern action against the U.S. Azizi, a prominent figure among hardliners in the parliament, is known for his vocal criticism of U.S. foreign policy in the region.

“The U.S. strike is a clear indication of the American government’s refusal to adhere to the norms of international diplomacy,” Azizi said. “We will not stand idly by as the U.S. undermines our sovereignty and territorial integrity. We will respond accordingly.”

While the Iranian government has not specified exactly how it plans to respond, regional observers believe the latest U.S. military action is likely to strengthen hardline factions within the Iranian establishment, who have long been skeptical of diplomatic engagement with the U.S.

As negotiations between the two sides stall, many in the international community are growing increasingly worried about a possible escalation in tensions, with regional experts warning that military action by either side could have devastating consequences for global stability.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has condemned the U.S. strike, calling it an “act of aggression” that undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts. Diplomats from other countries involved in the JCPOA talks have also expressed concern over the latest developments, urging restraint from all parties involved.

In response to growing tensions, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has called for increased vigilance and self-reliance, emphasizing the importance of defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The U.S. and Iranian negotiating teams are expected to reconvene in the coming days, but prospects for a breakthrough appear remote in the short term, given the deep-seated mistrust and hostility between the two nations.
